Detroit Streetcar Project Executive Resigns

The chief administrative officer of the Detroit M-1 streetcar project has resigned 10 months after taking the job.

Heather Carmona was responsible for fund-raising, donor relations, grand administration, government relations, human resources, marketing and community engagement.

“During her tenure, she helped to advance the work of the rail project on a number of levels, building partnerships and expanding the reach of our work and message,” M-1 rail spokesman James Canning told the Detroit Free Press. “We appreciate her contributions to the organization and wish her every success in the pursuit of new opportunities.”

Carmona joined the project in April 2013 after 15 years as executive director of the Woodward Avenue Action Association. The nonprofit promotes economic development along Woodward Avenue, the corridor of the new rail project.

Construction of the streetcar line is expected to begin this summer with completion of the project expected in 2016. Workers are currently relocating utilities along the 3.3 mile streetcar route.
