In the Eye of the Snowstorm

Winter photography offers an array of atmospheric conditions to caption, but among the most prized are the dramatic images to be made of trains in the midst of a snowfall. The heavier the snow, the better.

On a Sunday in early January, I got out to the Kent-Brady Lake area to catch some trains in the snow. There was a steady snowfall from mid morning to the noon hour. At times, the snow was quite heavy.

The NS images were taken from either the Ravenna Road or Lake Rockwell Road bridges. The CSX images were taken form the Main Street bridge in Kent.

About a month later, I went in search of snow and trains on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The two images shown here were taken at Indigo Lake.
