CSX turned out the lights on Monday on the Huntington Division with the closing of the dispatch and divisional offices in a three-story building in downtown Huntington, West Virginia.
The duties will be parceled out among the Louisville, Great Lakes, Baltimore, Florence and Atlanta divisions.
That transition had already been underway over the past few weeks.
Some of the 100 dispatchers, managers and others have or will transfer to other CSX division offices.
The region covered by the Huntington Division extended from southeastern Tennessee to central Ohio and eastward to the Virginia coast.
CSX has linked the closing of the Huntington Division to the decline of coal traffic. Much of the coal business that CSX had originated from mines located within the division.
The shops and yard in Huntington will remain in service.
