Class 1 Employment Fell in June

The U.S. Surface Transportation Board said that employment on Class 1 railroads fell by 11.55 percent in June.

STBThe railroads employed 152,426 during the month. The percentage decline comparison was with employment in June 2015.

All reported categories showed decreased in employment the STB said. This included executives, officials and staff assistants, down 6.42 percent; professional and administrative, down 5.78 percent; MOW and structures, down 6.05 percent; maintenance of equipment and stores, down 8.22 percent; transportation (other than train and engine), down 8.71 percent; and transportation (train and engine), down 18.71 percent.
