CSX, CN Lauded for Sustainability Practices

CSX and Canadian National were named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index in recognition of their company sustainability practices.

CSX logo 1The only U.S.-based railroad named to the list, CSX was lauded for its leadership in sustainable and responsible business practices. It was one of just three transportation companies named to the North American index.

In a news release, CSX said it was recognized for high performance in corporate governance, supply chain management and corporate citizenship and philanthropy, as well as in several areas of environmental performance.

CN was named for the fifth consecutive year to the DJSI World Index and the eighth consecutive year to the North America Index.

The Montreal-based railroad said in a news release that its sustainability efforts in 2015 included a 19 percent reduction in locomotive greenhouse gas emissions intensity based on 2005 levels, a 25 percent reduction in accidents per million train miles, and about a 90 percent diversion of its operations waste from landfills.
