Ohio Central will improve a crossing at Schrock Road and Township Road 656 in Tuscarawas County while CSX will upgrade a crossing at Green Road and Township Road 96 in Wood County s well as a crossing of County Road 28 in Wood County.
In all three projects, the railroads will install mast-mounted flashing lights and gates with the work to be completed by June 28, 2017.
Funding will come from the federal government.
In a news release, PUCO said that since it began evaluating Ohio’s public grade crossings to determine the need for installing active warning devices, the number of train-motor vehicle crashes has decreased from 123 in 2001 to 72 in 2015.
