CVSR to Revert to Off-Season Operation, Some Tickets Still Remain for Polar Express Trips

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will revert to off-season operation after the completion of the last trips of Oct. 30.

The National Park Scenic trains will operate only on Saturday and Sunday starting Nov. 5 and extending through Nov. 27. The Scenic will not operate during December.

Trains will depart Rockside Road station at 9 a.m. and 12:55 p.m., and from Akron at 10:50 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.

The CVSR will offer a number of theme trains in November and December. The last Grape Express train of the year will depart from Rockside Road station at 2 p.m. on Nov. 6. The journey will feature winter wines. That trip is sold out.

The final Ales on Rails run of 2016 will depart from Rockside Road station at 2 p.m. on Nov. 5 and feature holiday beers. That trip is shown as sold out.

Military veterans will be treated to a free train ride on Friday, Nov. 11, departing from Rockside Road station and Akron Northside station.

The trip will last for two hours and is sold out. Passengers must present a military card or identification at the boarding station.  

Also sold out is the Mr. Jingeling’s Holiday Jubilee trips of Nov. 26 and 27 using seats on the regular Scenic trains.

Onboard will be Santa’s elf, Mr. Jingeling, who will share traditional Christmas songs and tell some stories of life at the North Pole.

The program lasts for an hour and a half of the three-hour round trip.

Tickets are still available for the Christmas Tree Adventure on Nov. 26 and 27 leaving on the regular Scenic train at 9 a.m. from Rockside Road and 10:50 a.m. from Akron.

Passengers will ride to Peninsula and then take a bus to Heritage Tree Farm where they will have the opportunity to buy a Christmas tree. The cost of the tree and farm activities is not included in the ticket price.

A handful of tickets remain for the annual Polar Express trips. The first Polar Express train will operate on Nov. 12 with the final trips being made on Dec. 20.

Trains depart at 7 p.m. from Rockside Road station and Akron Northside station with a return set for 9 p.m. at both depots.
