An Alliance company that makes components for railroad freight cars will shut down its plant in early 2017, putting 435 employees out of work.
Alliance Castings Company described the move as temporary and cited a “major downturn in the rail car rail car manufacturing [business] and the resultant lower demand for the plant’s products.”
No date was set for the shutdown, but it is expected to be between Jan. 31 and Feb. 14.
The company has not indicated how long it expects the plant to be closed but Alliance Mayor Alan Andreani said it could be about six months.
