BLET Reaches First Contract With WNYP

Members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen have approved a contract with the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad.

It is the first contract BLET has ever negotiated with the short-line railroad that operates 190 miles of former Erie Railroad trackage between Meadville, Pennsylvania, and Hornell, New York.

The contract runs through Dec. 31, 2021, and sets wage rates, overtime pay, and health and welfare benefits for about a dozen WNYP employees.

In a news release, BLET said the contract also provides due process protections that describe the process to be followed when disciplinary charges are levied due to an alleged rule violation.

BLET said in its new release that the WNYP has had three pay scales for locomotive engineers and conductors but the new agreement calls for one hourly rate by 2021.

Pay will rise between 15.91 percent to 28.44 percent for engineers, and 15.91 percent to 33.75 percent for conductors.

The WNYP is owned by Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad Corporation and began operations in 2001.
