3 Kentucky Railroads Get Grants for Crossing Projects

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has awarded grants to R.J. Corman Railroad Group, the Port of Louisville Railroad, and the Paducah & Louisville Railroad to pay for grade-crossing improvements.

The grants total $929,004 for 16 grade-crossing improvement projects at 12 crossings.

The railroads will be reimbursed half of the total project cost through the Kentucky Rail Crossing Improvement Program.

In a news release, the cabinet said that in choosing the grant awardees, it considered factors such as crash history; vehicle, train and truck traffic; physical condition; project cost; and the federal railroad crossing score.

“Safety continues to be the first priority of the cabinet and this extends to all modes of transportation,” said Cabinet Secretary Greg Thomas in a statement.
