W.Va. Transit Security Plan Approved

West Virginia has received certification of its transit-rail state safety oversight plan from the Federal Transit Administration.

The West Virginia Department of Transportation is responsible for Morgantown Personal Rapid Transit, a 3.6-mile system that shuttles passengers between the University of West Virginia’s campuses.

The automated people mover system features small vehicles that operate on an elevated guideway.

The state transit-rail system programs are required by federal law and states that fail to gain certification may lose federal funds.

Thus far 11 states have earned the certification, including Ohio and Pennsylvania.
