CSX Names Safety Officer

James Schichtenberg has been named by CSX to serve as its new vice president and chief safety officer.

He will coordinate the railroad’s efforts to improve its safety practices with a consulting firm, DEKRA, that the railroad recently hired.

DERKA is conducting a comprehensive safety assessment of the company’s operations that is expected to be complete this fall.

Schichtenberg has 20 years of railroad experience, including 15 years of leading rail safety and regulatory initiatives.

His most recent post was senior director of regulatory and operating practices at Canadian National. He previously worked at the Federal Railroad Administration and Union Pacific.

Schichtenberg will report to Ed Harris, CSX’s executive vice president of operations.
