The Railway Supply Institute’s American Railway Car Institute Committee reported this week that Rail car orders in the second quarter of 2018 totaled 23,788 units compared with 10,348 units in the first quarter of this year and 17,665 units in the second quarter of 2017.
Car deliveries in the second quarter declined to 13,071 units from 13,098 units in the first quarter, but were higher than the 10,625 units delivered in the second quarter of 2017.
The rail car backlog was 65,161 units on July 1, which compares with 55,216 units on April 1; 58,275 units on Dec. 31, 2017; and 64,253 units on Oct. 1, 2017.
