Black & White Steam World

I grew up in a world of black and white TV, movies, and photographs, so black and white images are as real to me as color images.

Here are two black and white images of Norfolk & Western 4-8-4 No. 611.

The top image of the Class J in operation was made in Virginia in early September 1982. With me on this trip were Jim Bacon and Paul Woodring.

I no longer remember the location where I made this image.

In the bottom image, the 611 is headed westbound through the Flats in Cleveland in August 1985.

The tall white building to the left is Rhodes Tower on the campus of Cleveland State University.
