BLET Names New Head of Safety Task Force

Brian Fransen has been named national division coordinator of the safety task force of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.

He replaced Carl Fields, who retired on Oct. 17.

In a news release, BLET said the STF assists federal agencies in the investigation of rail accidents, helping to determine probable causes and make safety recommendations.

Fransen is a locomotive engineer for BNSF and local chairman of BLET Division 207 in Casper, Wyoming.

He has been an STF investigator since 2012 and was named STF assistant coordinator last May.

Fields served the STF for more than 25 years. He has more than 41 years experience with Norfolk & Western and the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad Co.

The new assistant coordinator of the STF will be Bryan Aldridge, a CSX locomotive engineer member of BLET Division 78 in Louisville, Kentucky.

BLET is headquartered in Independence in suburban Cleveland.
