NICTD Reaches Agreements to Plan Extension

The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District said it has finished the third-party agreement it needs to plan to extend South Shore commuter service over eight miles from Hammond to Dyer, Indiana.

NICTD reached the agreement with Chicago-based commuter railroad Metra, four railroads and the Northern Indiana Public Service Company.

The agreement gives NICTD easements and allows it to conduct utility work.

The Federal Transit Administration is reviewing the proposed extension and may approve federal funding for the project this fall.
