Wabtec Announces Air Filter for Rail Cars Product

Pittsburgh-based Wabtec Corporation said it has created an air-filtration system for public transit rail system cars.

Known as BlueFilter, Wabtec said it can remove from rail cars more than 90 percent of contaminants per air cycle.

In a news release, Wabtec said the device removes contaminants that are .01 to 1,000 micrometers in size, including allergens, bacteria, various dusts and viruses.

Most standard filters used today only remove particles that are between 10 to 1,000 micrometers in size, which only includes contaminants such as pollen, most dusts and some bacteria.

Wabtec said its BlueFilter has been tested by two independent labs, including TÜV North Group, and been field tested by some transit systems.
