EBT to Offer Train Rides in August

Public trains rides on the East Broad Top Railroad will be available Aug. 13-15.

They will mark the first excursions on the Pennsylvania-based narrow-gauge railroad since 2011.

The excursions will coincide with the 60th anniversary of the opening of the EBT as a tourist railroad on Aug. 14, 1960, and operated in conjunction with the 260th anniversary of the founding of the town of Orbisonia and its twin borough, Rockhill Furnace, home of the EBT’s general offices, machine shops, and roundhouse.

The community festival is expected to include a parade, handicraft and food vendors, and other local activities.

The EBT excursions will feature two open cars pulled by a diesel switcher.

On display will be Baldwin 2-8-2 steam locomotives No. 14 (built 1912) and No. 16 along with other equipment.

The steam locomotives are currently being restored to operating condition with the objective of operating them in 2021.

The EBT Foundation said tickets for the excursions will go on sale on June 22.

The ticket will also include a tour of the shops and roundhouse, a trolley ride at the adjacent Rockhill Trolley Museum, and ice cream.

Ticket available will be limited in order to maintain social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

That will include restricting the number of people permitted on the property at any one time.

Cars and restroom facilities will be regularly cleaned and sanitized.
