South Shore Giving Free Rides in July, August

The South Shore Line will give holders of monthly tickets purchased in July free rides in August.

All passengers will be able ride for free in July and August if traveling westbound.

In a news release, the commuter carrier that links northwest Indiana with Chicago said all monthly tickets purchased for July will remain valid throughout August 2020.

Those who purchased paper tickets should keep them. Those who purchased a digital July monthly ticket should plan to keep that ticket and use it through August.

Passengers purchasing a digital July monthly ticket via the mobile app will see an August ticket uploaded to their account prior to Aug. 1, the news release said.

Those who receive tickets through an employer benefit program such as Wage Works and Commuter Benefit Solutions, should not order August tickets if they received a July monthly ticket.

The free westbound rides will be in effect for all passengers between July 1 and Aug. 31. The policy will apply to trips between all South Shore stations.

Up to three children aged 13 years and under can ride free on off-peak weekday and all weekend trains with a fare-paying adult.

Doctors, nurses, EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, other medical personnel and law enforcement will be able to ride in both directions throughout July and August.

Law enforcement encompasses police officers, correctional officers, TSA agents, and other security personnel.
