Design Work Has begun on Railcar Tracking Technology

Princeton Consultants has been chosen to design the technology platform for RailPulse, which is seeking to create tracking devices for rail freight cars.

In a news release RailPulse said the device will provide a “neutral, open-architecture, industry-wide railcar telematics platform to make it easier to ship by rail and to track rail shipments across the North American rail network.”

The device will protect the proprietary car-owner data, RaiPuse said.

Design work on the device bean last month and a full roll out of the RailPulse platform is expected to begin by late 2022.

RailPulse is a joint ventiure formed by Norfolk Southern, GATX Corporation, Genesee & Wyoming, TrinityRail and Watco.

The owning partners own nearly 20 percent of the North American railcar fleet.
