Up From the Coal Mines

Baltimore & Ohio F7A No. 4553 is passing Warwick Tower in Clinton in the late 1960s. It looks like it is hauling coal from Holloway, Ohio.

Coal was a major commodity once handled by the B&O on that line but the mines have since closed and the former B&O lines in that mining region of Ohio have been abandoned.

No. 4553 would later be transformed into a locomotive that pulled Maryland Area Regional Commuter trains. It has been saved and is now in the collection of the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore.
