Rail-car orders in the first quarter of 2021 were 6,227 units, an increase from 3,397 units in the fourth quarter of 2020 the Railway Supply Institute’s American Railway Car Institute Committee reported.
A year ago, first quarter orders stood at 6,172 units.
Car deliveries in the first quarter fell to 5,996 units from 6,216 units in the fourth quarter and 10,824 in the first quarter of 2020.
The rail-car backlog was 34,829 units on April 1 which compares with 34,598 on Dec. 31, 2020; 37,417 on Oct. 1, 2020; and 39,612 on July 1, 2020.
