Reading & Northern 4-8-4 No. 2102 is expected to do break-in service hauling freight trains, Trains magazine reported on its website.
The T-1 class steam locomotive is in the final stages of a six-year $1.45 million rebuilding.
R&N CEO Andrew M. Muller Jr. told Trains the 2102 is expected to see freight duty in mid-March.
The Pennsylvania regional railroad earlier had announced plans to offer steam-powered passenger excursions in May, July, August and September.
The 2102 is one of two operational steam locomotives on the R&N motive roster, including 4-6-2 No. 425.
The Trains report indicated that the 2102 is likely to pull coal trains once it begins freight service.
