Leaving Indiana

I am standing a few feet away from the Indiana-Ohio border in Union City, Indiana, as CSX eastbound train I132 passes through town on the Indianapolis Line. The trail at left is located on the former right of way of a Baltimore & Ohio branch that ended in Union City.

Where I’m standing was once the right of a way of a Pennsylvania Railroad line that crossed the New York Central about where the trailing unit is. The Indianapolis Line is the ex-NYC route between Cleveland and Indianapolis and once was part of the Big Four.

This train will make a left turn at Ridgeway, Ohio, and head north for Toledo before terminating at Livernois Yard in Detroit. CSX picked up the train from Union Pacific at St. Elmo, Illinois, and it picked up a block of merchandise freight at Avon Yard near Indianapolis.

The train will also works Walbridge Yard in Toledo and in Plymouth, Michigan.
