Orders for railcars rose by 124 percent in the third quarter the Railway Supply Institute reported.
The orders totaled 25,075 units, an increase of 11,177 units ordered in the second quarter of this year.
It also presented a 191 percent increase over the third quarter of 2021 when 8,607 unit were ordered.
RSI said deliveries in the third quarter were 10,821 units up from 9,629 units in the second quarter and 8,298 units in the third quarter of 2021.
The backlog of railcars on Oct. 1 was 61,415 units, an increase over the 47,461 units backlogged on July 1.
The figures released by RSI came from data supplied by North American freight-car builders. The car types incorporated into the figures include pressure and non-pressure tank cars, hopper cars, box cars, flat cars and gondolas.
