Very Early in the Conrail Era in Akron

Penn Central SD45 No. in Akron on June 29, 1976. It is on the point of a westbound near Voris Street. Trailing behind it is a former Erie Lackawanna unit. This image was made during the early months of Conrail.

The second unit in this photo is also an SD45 of some sub-class. If those were the only two units on the train, that would represent a very common lash-up of power on the EL through Akron in that era. Common power for EL trailer trains in this area was two SDP45s. I remember seeing them as a teen in Akron.
