3rd Rail Labor Union Rejects Contract

Members of a third railroad labor union have voted against ratification of a tentative contract agreement.

The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, which has 300 members, did not release the vote totals.

Thus far members of seven unions have ratified the tentative contract while two others plan to announce ratification vote results on Nov. 21.

A national railroad work stoppage would not occur before Dec. 4 because the various unions that have voted down the contract have agreed not to strike before then.

The last national railroad work stoppage occurred in 1992.
