Steam Sunday: Flag Stop in Michigan

Flagg Coal Company No. 75 is an 0-4-0ST locomotive built in 1940 for a company based in Avoca, Pennsylvania.

During the five years it worked for Flagg, it had roster number 2. It became No. 75 after being sold in 1935 to the Solvay Process Quarry in Jamestown, New York.

It was later acquired by John and Byron “Barney” Gramling. They restored it at their shop in Ashley, Indiana, between 1991 and 2002.

Since then it has traveled to various short line, museum and tourist railroads.

My one and thus far only encounter with No. 75 came on July 23, 2009, at the steam festival in Owosso, Michigan.
