The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio is seeking applications for grant money to fund hazardous materials training.
The grants will be awarded to educational institutions and local governments to establish programs to teach first responders best practices in responding to incidents involving hazardous materials.
This could include courses for first responders; intermodal hazardous materials training; incident response exercises; rail hazmat response training, including rail and highway incident response training; and hazmat planning and survey studies.
Applications are due by May 31. Last year PUCO awarded $800,000 in grants to 16 local governments and educational institutions.
