The Akron Railroad Club held its annual Christmas banquet on December 4, 2010, at the Martin Center of the University of Akron. As is customary, officers for the next year were installed.
ARRC life member Jerry Joe Jacobson updated members on the progress of his Age of Steam Roundhouse that is under construction at Sugar Creek, Ohio.
Members also took time to remember those who had passed away during the year.
Presenting the program was Jerry Jordak, whose sound and images show about former U.S. Highway 66 between Chicago and Los Angeles proved to be quite popular. Jordak and a friend spent about two weeks traveling the route of the famed highway a few years ago.
His program focused on the many sights along the way with music appropriate for the state being featured. The show also included a few rail operations along the former Gulf, Mobile & Ohio line in Illinois, the ex-Frisco between St. Louis and Oklahoma City, and the former Santa Fe in New Mexico and Arizona.
Jordak actually presented two programs. The first focused primarily on the sights along Route 66 and was set to music.
The second program was a more traditional railfan oriented program with plenty of trains and other railroad related images.
Many of those in attendance marveled at how quickly Jordak s show seem to fly past. It was that good
