2010 Members’ Night Salute to CVSR
The year 2010 marked the 35th anniversary of the start of excursions on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. To observe this milestone, the Akron Railroad Club dedicated its 2010 members’ night on November 20, 2010, to remembering the CVSR.
The theme was “Thirty-five Years of Excursions in the Cuyahoga Valley” and if it ran on the CVSR at any time during the 35years since excursions began, you probably saw it during the various programs put on by ARRC members. Initially known as the Cuyahoga Valley Line, the excursion service ran with a steam locomotive No. 4070 and vintage coaches owned by the Midwest Railway Preservation Society.
There plenty of slides and movies from the 4070 days, which ended with the CVL and Midwest groups going their separate ways. That ushered in an era of Alco locomotives and various passengers cars, many of them built during the streamliner era.
As in recent members’ nights, the club sprung for pizza and drinks with members bringing other munchies. No one went home hungry and not one could say he didn’t see all that the CVSR has had to offer over the years.

You had to be pretty fast on your feet to get enough pizza to eat as the slices vanished pretty quickly.
