The annual Akron Railroad club members night paid tribute to Norfolk Southern, which this year is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The night’s theme was “30 Years of Norfolk Southern.”

The event was held on Friday, Nov. 16. Pizza and snacks were served. Members brought their favorite beverage to add to the menu.

Members showed both slides and digital images. The latter were projected on the club’s new laptop computer, a Dell Inspiron. The new computer also features a PowerPoint viewer so that club members who have a PowerPoint presentation will be able to show their images.

The many images shown not only paid tribute to NS, but provided an entertaining evening for the members and visitors.

The night’s fare included some vintage slides of various NS predecessors, including Norfolk & Western and the Southern Railway as well as various other railroads that made up the N&W and Southern.

A few members also brought images of other railroads. These included slides of Burlington Northern operations in Galesburg, Ill., A trip across Canada on VIA Rail Canada’s Canadian and various steam locomotives on a myriad of railroads.

And, of course, there were numerous images of Norfolk Southern action.

Presenting slides were Roger Durfee, Bob McCallum, Jerry Kruger, Marty Surdyk and Jim Mastromatteo.  Digital programs were presented by Craig Sanders, Gary Spencer, Paul Woodring, Ed Ribinskas, Jeff Troutman, Richard Jacobs, Eli Akerib, David Mangold and Dennis Taksar.
