Bring a Companion For Free Fare Sale Launched

Amtrak on Tuesday announced a bring a companion for free fare sale for travel between Feb. 1 and June 12.

Tickets must be purchased by Jan. 12. The fare applies to select routes for coach and sleeping car tickets.

There are blackout dates on April 10, April 13 and May 22 through May 25.

The trains offering the companion fare include the California Zephyr, Capitol Limited, Cardinal, City of New Orleans, Coast Starlight, Crescent, Empire Builder, Lake Shore Limited, Palmetto, Silver Meteor, Silver Star, Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited and the Texas Eagle.

Amtrak said the sale is valid for one free companion rail fare traveling on the same reservation as one full adult fare.

For reservations with sleeping accommodations, the free companion and full fare customer must travel together in the same room.

All prices will be automatically discounted from the standard fare when accessing this promotion  on a special website page by using the discount code (V605) when booking a trip.

The fare cannot be combined with other discounts. Space is limited and the offer is not available on every departure. Other terms and conditions apply.

Amtrak Holding BOGO Sleeper Sale

Amtrak has announced a buy one, get one sale on sleeping car roomettes and bedrooms on selected routes including the Lake Shore Limited and Capitol Limited.

Tickets must be purchased between June 4 and 10, and travel must take place between Aug. 1, 2019, and March 21, 2020.

Amtrak said the fare is available on all trains with sleeping cars except the Auto Train.

The full fare adult and traveling companion must travel together on the same reservation.

Other terms and conditions include no changes to a trip itinerary once travel has begun and a 25 percent cancellation fee will be imposed on all cancellations.

Reservations must be canceled at least 15 days before travel and reservations canceled after that will receive a non-refundale eVoucher.

There are no blackout dates, but space may not be available on all trains at all times.

Amtrak Launches Fare Sale This Week

Taking yet another page from the airlines fare sale playbook, Amtrak has launched a discount sale of its highly restrictive “saver” advance purchase fares.

The National Spring Sale Campaign, which began Monday and extends through March 29, is offering discounts of 20 percent to 33 percent for tickets purchased online only at Amtrak’s website.

The fares are good for coach travel between April 15 and June 21. There are no blackout dates, but the cheaper fares are not be available on every day or train.

They cannot be upgraded later to business class or sleeping-car travel and are “non-refundable.”

Making a change in your travel plans once you purchase a ticket will subject you to a 25 percent cancellation fee.
