It Still Makes Me Smile

September 2, 2021

Sometimes a photo brings a smile. Here is R.J. Corman GP9 No. 9003 heading south on Conrail at CP Mace in Massillon in mid-1997. The 9003 and its train are stretched out in such a way that most if not all of the train is visible which adds to the photo’s interest. The train will be on Conrail for a short time before switching back to its own rails. The 9003 is a former Baltimore & Ohio locomotive.

Conrail SD40-2 No. 6470 leads an eastbound trailer train through Mace in Massillon in May 1979. The 6470 was built by EMD for Conrail in 1978. The trailing unit appears to be a GP40 still in Penn Central black with minimal Conrail markings.

NS Action at Mace

May 16, 2021

Here is a series of images made on the Fort Wayne Line of Norfolk Southern in Massillon at CP Mace on May 14, 2021.

In the top image, NS SD70ACe leads a westbound manifest freight. Behind this train was a local led by GP38-3 No. 5822. It is shown in the middle image. The 5822 was rebuilt from an GP50 originally built for the Southern Railway in 1981

The third image shows the east end of the westbound local, which is being pulled by the 5822. On the east end is SD40E No. 6308.
