Don Woods to Present ARRC Nov. 22 Program

The Akron Railroad Club will hold its November meeting on Friday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. at the New Horizons Christian Church at 290 Darrow Road in Akron.

Don Woods will present a slide show of images that he made while chasing Union Pacific’s Big Boy steam locomotive last May.

Don is a veteran photographer who has photographed trains across North America.

Last spring he traveled 5,500 miles over two weeks to catch the Big Boy in Wyoming and Utah as well as other Western railroad operations.

Accompanied by fellow ARRC member Dave Shepherd, Don and Dave experienced a wide range of conditions from sunshine to snow.

In addition to the Big Boy, Don will also show images of Amtrak’s California Zephyr, including photographs made aboard the train, which he and Dave rode from Salt Lake City to Denver.

Woods to Give November ARRC Program

Don Woods will present a slide program at the November Akron Railroad Club meeting this Friday.

Club members present will also elect officers for 2019. The meeting will be the last one for President Craig Sanders and Bulletin Editor Marty Surdyk, both of whom are retiring from their posts at the end of their terms.

The meeting will begin with a business meeting at 8 p.m. followed by the program at approximately 8:30 p.m. The club meets at the New Horizons Christian Church, 290 Darrow Road, in Akron.

Following the meeting, some members gather at the Eat ‘n Park restaurant at Howe and Main streets in Cuyahoga Falls for a late dinner, dessert or an early breakfast.

Visitors are always welcome at Akron Railroad Club meetings.

Woods Has November ARRC Program

Don Woods will present a slide program at the Nov. 17 Akron Railroad Club meeting this Friday.

The meeting will also serve as the club’s annual meeting and officers will be elected for calendar year 2018.

Tickets will be available at the meeting for the ARRC end of year dinner to be held Dec. 2 at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s restaurant in Stow. The program at the dinner will be given by Mark Demaline and is titled Southern Served the South.

The meeting will begin with a short business session at 8 p.m. followed by the program at approximately 8:30 p.m. The club meets at the New Horizons Christian Church, 290 Darrow Road, in Akron.

Woods to Present at Friday’s ARRC Meeting

Don Woods will present a slide show at the September meeting of the Akron Railroad Club that will take members to the mountains of West Virginia, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

ARRC logo 2The program will feature images that Don made during his annual autumn visit to Sand Patch on CSX and the Pocahontas District of Norfolk Southern.

Don and his fellow ARRC member and traveling companion Dave Shepherd have been traveling to this region of the country for many years.

Most of the program will show images that Don made in 2015.

Among the images that we can expect to see are N&W steam locomotive No. 611 pulling excursions in and around Roanoke, Virginia.

The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 with a half-hour business meeting followed by the program at approximately 8:45 p.m. The club meets at the New Horizons Christian Church, 290 Darrow Road, in Akron.

Following the meeting, some members gather at the Eat ‘n Park restaurant at Howe and Main streets in Cuyahoga Falls for a late dinner, dessert or an early breakfast.
