RRE to Hold Virtual Meeting

January 8, 2021

The Forest City Division of the Railroad Enthusiasts will conduct its Jan. 15 meeting online.

The virtual event will be the first meeting for the club since last spring.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. and hosted by the platform WebEx.

Members Jerry Jordak and Paul Emch worked to make the arrangements to conduct the meeting virtually.

Participants must join the meeting from their computers using a web browser or the WebEx desktop app, or via the WebEx smartphone app.

Jordak will present the program, which will feature photographs made during his annual “Bogus Adventure” with two friends.

Last fall the trio spent time in eastern Pennsylvania photographing regional and Class 1 railroad operations.

Jordak to Present at November RRE Meeting

November 4, 2019

The Forest City Division of the Railroad Enthusiasts will hold its November meeting on Friday (Nov. 8) in Westlake.

The meeting will begin at 8:15 p.m. at F.O.P. Hall No. 25 (Western Cuyahoga) at 26145 Center Ridge Road.

Jerry Jordak will present a two-part digital program titled Southern and Bogus Adventures 2019.

The first part will feature a trip he took in May to Kentucky and Tennessee, including the ex-Southern  Railway Rathole route.

Other operations to be covered include Lhoist North America on the former Tennessee Central, the Heritage Railway, and the Nashville & Eastern.

The second part of the program will be the annual “Bogus Adventure” outing with Jerry’s Colorado friends who came east for the annual Penn Central Historical Society convention held this year in Albany, New York.

The program will feature coverage of CSX’s Selkirk Yard, SMS Rail Lines, Vermont Railway, Susquehanna, Finger Lakes Railway, Western New York & Pennsylvania, and a couple of other surprises.

The group is also looking ahead to its December meeting, which will be a pizza party and member’s night open projector format.

The working theme for the member’s night programs is Things I Love to Hate, which could include such things as paint schemes, clouds, dirty engines, rude railfans, railroads with Keystones as their logo or even railroads with ovals as their logo. The possibilities are endless.

February ARRC Program Will Take Us to Indiana, Western Ohio and West Virginia Hills ‘n Hollers

February 23, 2015

Every year Jerry Jordak gets together with a couple of friends and they attend the Penn Central Historical Society meeting.

They also spend time traveling in the region where the convention is being held in a ritual they call their annual bogus adventure.

Last year the PC group met in Elkhart, Ind., where they were treated to a tour of the Norfolk Southern yard there.

NS even brought in the Penn Central, New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroad heritage locomotives.

Jerry and his friends also spent time railfanning on the NS Chicago Line, the South Shore and other rail lines in Indiana and western Ohio.

He’ll be showing us some of what he captured during a program that he’ll be presenting at the February meeting of the Akron Railroad Club.

The program will also include some images that Jerry made during a Columbus Day weekend venture to West Virginia last October.

That included a visit to the Durbin & Greenbrier Railroad for a photo freight charter and some CSX action near Grafton.

The club will meet this Friday (Feb. 27) at 8 p.m. with a half-hour business meeting followed by the program at approximately 8:45 p.m. The club meets at the New Horizons Christian Church, 290 Darrow Road, in Akron.

Some members gather at about 6 p.m. for dinner at Duffy’s Grill, 231 Darrow Road. Following the meeting, members meet at the Eat ‘n Park restaurant at Howe and Main streets in Cuyahoga Falls for a late dinner, dessert or an early breakfast.

Visitors are always welcome at Akron Railroad Club meetings.
