Michigan Passenger Rail Route Meetings Set

June 9, 2015

A Michigan rail travel advocacy group held on Tuesday in Lansing the first of a series of public meetings pertaining to the development of a rail passenger route between Detroit and Holland, Michigan.

Michigan by Rail includes organizations that favor expanding the state’s network of passenger trains.

Additional meetings will be held through June 22. Other meetings are being held in Grand Rapids (June 11 and 15), Detroit (June 18) and Ann Arbor (June 22)

Currently, the route is the subject of a study that is expected to be released in December and is being funded by a federal grant along with matching funds by 11 organizations based along the route.

The Michigan Environmental Council, the Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers, the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority and the Michigan Department of Transportation are managing the study.

Transportation Economics & Management Systems Inc is conducting the study’s technical analysis.
