Lima Train Show to be Held Dec. 14

The Lima train show and swap meet will be held Dec. 14 at the Allen County Fairgrounds between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The show will feature more than 170 tables of new and used toy trains in all gauges along with operating model railroad layouts.

Santa Claus will be on hand there will be a children’s play area.

Admission is $7 for adults with children age 12 and under admitted for free.

The event is sponsored by the Three Rivers Division, North Central Region National Model Railroad Association.

The fairgrounds is located at 2750 Harding Highway in Lima and is wheel chair accessible.

Columbus Train Show is Saturday, Youngstown Model Railroad Club to Have Open House Saturday and Sunday

If you’re looking for something to do before sitting down on Saturday night to watch Ohio State play Wisconsin for the Big Ten football championship then consider making a road trip to Columbus or Youngstown during the day.

The 66th Buckeye Model Trains & Railroad Artifacts Show and Sale will be held in Columbus at the Ohio Expo Center in the Lausche Building.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $7 per person with children under age 12 admitted for free.

The venue is located at 717 East 17th Ave. on the Ohio State Fairgrounds.

The event bills itself as Ohio’s largest combination model and railroad artifact show with more than 300 tables and several operating layouts.

Thousands of model railroad items will be for sale in all gauges. Artifacts for sale will include railroad china and silver; lanterns; keys and locks; books; magazines; and railroad timetables.

In Northeast Ohio, the Youngstown Model Railroad Association will hold an open house on Saturday and Sunday between noon and 6 p.m.

The club’s layout is located at 751 N. Four Mile Run Road.

The event features O and HO scale model railroad displays. There will be door prizes and refreshments will be available.

Train Show, Model RR Open House set in Indy, Michigan

If you looking to get out of the house for a road trip this weekend and don’t mind doing some driving, there will be railfan events in Indiana and Michigan to visit.

The Naptown & White River Train Show and December Open House will be held in Indianapolis between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Emmerich Manual High School, 2405 S. Madison Ave.

There will be more than 100 tables of merchandise from Z to G scale, plus operating layouts and diorama exhibits.

The clubhouse layout will also be open to the public at 1115 McDougal St. in Indianapolis.

There will be door prizes and refreshments available. The event is wheelchair accessible and has free parking.

In Blissfield, Michigan, the Blissfield Model Railroad will hold an open house on Saturday at the club’s facility at 109 E. Adrian St.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission charge but donations are appreciated.

The HO scale layout is set in the Appalachian Mountain region of Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. The layout features centralized traffic control and working block signals.

The club models the Chesapeake & Ohio and Clinchfield railroads in the 1950s and 1960s, featuring Centralized Traffic Control and working signals.

AOS Roundhouse Winter Events to Include Expanded Museum Store Hours, Speakers, Santa Claus Visit

The Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum in Sugarcreek has announced a slate of activities for the winter, including holiday shopping hours, model train layout displays, a speaker series and a visit with Santa.

In a news release, AOS said its store will be open for special holiday shopping hours on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. between Nov. 21 and Dec. 20 except for the week of Thanksgiving when the store will be closed on Nov. 28 and 29.

Division 1 Mid-Central Region National Model Railroad Association (The Akron-Canton-Youngstown Division) will have an operating model railroad layout on display in the store during the holiday shopping season.

Among the speakers appearing during the monthly winter speaker series will be architect Ted Goodman, who designed the roundhouse.

He will speak about the design process and construction of the roundhouse on Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Age of Steam Roundhouse Depot.

There is no admission charge for the event, but attendees should pre-register via the AOS website.

As for Santa, he’ll be appearing at the roundhouse on Dec. 14 from noon to 2 p.m.

Visitors should bring their own cameras or phones to create photographs.

There will also be an opportunity to make a take-home Christmas ornament to remember the visit.

Pictures with Santa are $5 per child and an additional $5 if they wish to make an ornament. Tickets can be purchased in advance on the AOS website or on-site on the day of the event.
