It is Sept. 22, 1979, in New Haven, Indiana. Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 No. 765 is making its first public showing since its restoration to operating condition by posing on the the head of a mini-freight train. The photographer made the trip to see the 765 with Paul Woodring and Mark Perri. “I’ve gained two friends and many great memories since then,” he wrote in sending this photograph along.
