On on Friday I went to Lima, Ohio, where the R.J. Corman was switching the yard and then went west to Elgin, Ohio.
Elgin is as far west as a train can go on the former Erie Railroad mainline as it is abandoned west of there.
Here are some pictures of the train with the top images showing it passing the depot at Spencerville and two others from Elgin.
On Wednesday I chased the Napoleon, Defiance & Western in Western Ohio. This is a short line that runs a former Wabash line between Woodburn, Indiana, and Napoleon, Ohio.
They roster about a half dozen engines including two GP20s still lettered for the Santa Fe.
We chased it from Okalona, Ohio, to Napoleon where it switched a Campbell’s food warehouse and then returned to Defiance.
In the top photography the train is leaving Okalona. Then it is shown leaving Napolean after switching and passing the elevator at Okalona.
The next set shows the train crossing the Maumee River at Defiance, a pair of the GP20s in Defiance and the return trip at Okalona.
CSX 30 on a Q015 splits the first signals west of Republic.
Roger Durfee and a friend went out to Western Ohio last Saturday an an all-day railfan expedition. Here is the second part showing what they found. These images were taken on the CSX routes.
CSX 7550 departs North Baltimore eastbound.
CSX 7892 cross the NS ex NKP at Mortimer, also known as North Findlay on NS. Train Q107 with no KCS power this day…bummer.
CSX 8360 splits the “measured mile” signs at MP 18 as it pulls hard up a slight grade.
Three CN units lead a K898 at North Baltimore.
