EL Monday: Smokin’ it up in Akron

November 28, 2022

Erie Lackawanna 2456 is westbound in Akron sometime between 1967 and 1972. This is an Alco C425, EMD F7B, GE U25B lash-up that is putting a ton of smoke in the air as it accelerates out of McCoy Street Yard and passes beneath Thornton Street.

EL Monday: Another Kent Memory

September 28, 2020

Erie Lackawanna U25B No. 2506 is eastbound in Kent in late 1967/early 1968. Notice the westbound shelter with the bad gutter, the boxcar on the team track, and someone’s 1958 Buick.

Gee, No, A GE for an EL Monday in Kent

August 24, 2020

Here’s a combination that used to be common but would be rare today. On the lead of this westbound Erie Lackawanna train in Kent is GE U25B No. 2512. Trailing the U boat is Alco C424 No. 2404. It’s enough to make to you say, “gee, look at that.”

A Sort of EL Monday in Akron

July 12, 2020

For the purists this only a sort of Erie Lackawanna Monday.

Yes that U25B leading a train in Akron is in EL colors and markings. It was even built for the EL in August 1965 and it is coupled to another unit in EL paint.

But in mid 1976 the EL had been folded into the new Consolidated Rail Corporation so this is not an EL train even if it looks like one.

Despite that it will has the appearance of the EL and remembering a fallen flag is what EL Monday is all about.
