CVSR Acquiring Alco Locomotives

Two new Alco locomotives have arrived at the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The units, an FPA-4 and FPB-4, were acquired from the Grand Canyon Railway.

CVSR said in a news release that it plans to purchase two more such units from the tourist railroad operator in Arizona.

The railroad that operates through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park already has a fleet of Alco units, including FPA-4 units.

The news release said CVSR is seeking to become the largest collection of preserved Alco locomotives in the country

Money to buy the Alcos came from the Leading the Way Locomotive Fleet capital campaign, which to date has raised about $1.5 million toward its goal of $3 million.

Once the locomotives are operational CVSR plans to maintain two train sets with locomotives on each end. Only one set will operate at a time.

When equipment on one trainset needs maintenance the other can be pressed into service.
